DENVER, November 5, 2026 — Colorado voters approved Propositions 134 and 135, measures restricting transgender young people’s participation in sports and families’ healthcare decisions. One Colorado condemned the results and announced it will continue deep canvassing, storytelling, and community organizing to build understanding and support for transgender Coloradans.
“This outcome is painful, and it will have real consequences for young people and families across our state,” said Nadine Bridges, executive director of One Colorado. “To every transgender young person: You deserve to play, to access the healthcare you need, and to grow up in a state that supports you. You deserved those things yesterday, you deserve them today, and you will deserve them tomorrow. No election result can take away your dignity or belonging.”
Throughout the campaign, in partnership with the Families Not Politics coalition and over 700 volunteers, we reached thousands of Coloradans through phone banks and door knocking and had more than 16,621 conversations about trans young people’s lives. Transgender Coloradans, parents, and community storytellers shared personal experiences and challenged misinformation alongside coalition partners working across LGBTQIA+ equality, immigrant rights, reproductive justice, and faith communities.
“Opponents of trans equality used fear and confusion to make scapegoats of trans young people and distract from problems families face every day, including skyrocketing costs of living and lack of access to affordable healthcare,” said Jax Gonzalez, political director at One Colorado. “These campaigns are meant to exhaust the people forced to defend their families and their futures. Our volunteers and storytellers helped neighbors understand the lives behind the campaign ads. That work matters, and it will continue.”
One Colorado will sustain deep canvassing, which uses extended conversations grounded in listening and personal experiences, alongside storytelling and coalition building. Transgender young people and families will help guide the work to build lasting support across Colorado.
“We fought hard to defeat these measures. This is not the outcome we worked for, but none of this work was in vain,” Bridges said. “Every conversation and relationship gives us a foundation to build on. We will keep doing this work long after this election, until anti-equality measures like these don’t stand a chance in Colorado.”
The organization will work with partners to identify resources for affected young people and families and share verified information as it becomes available.
