Denver, CO -- One Colorado, the state’s leading advocacy organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Coloradans, released their federal list of 2020 Pro-Equality Champions:

‍President of the United States

‍Bernie Sanders

Elizabeth Warren

Joe Biden

Pete Buttigieg

Tom Steyer

‍Colorado United States Senate

‍Andrew Romanoff

Diane Bray

John Hickenlooper

Lorena Garcia

Stephany Rose Spaulding

‍Colorado United State House of Representatives

‍Diana DeGette,

CD1Diane Mitsch Bush,

CD3Ed Perlmutter,

CD7Jason Crow,

CD6Jillian Freeland,

CD5Joe Neguse,

CD2

From the moment that Donald Trump was sworn in, LGBTQ people were erased from White House, Department of State, and Department of Labor websites and he has been targeting the LGBTQ community ever since. We have seen egregious attacks on the transgender community, including ongoing efforts to ban transgender soldiers from serving in the military and revoking non-discrimination protections for transgender youth at school.

‍“Despite making significant progress in recent years, members of the LGBTQ community and their families are still facing steep barriers in achieving true equality. One of the easiest and most significant ways of dismantling these barriers is to ensure that pro-equality champions are in positions to drive policy and legislation, which we can achieve simply by participating in the democratic process. The stakes could not be higher. This is a pivotal moment for our community.”

‍- Daniel Ramos, Executive Director, One Colorado

‍“I’m honored to be endorsed as a One Colorado Pro-Equality Champion. Colorado has led the way in securing LGBTQ+ rights and lifting up the voices of the LGBTQ+ community. It’s time for the federal government to follow suit. As president, I will use every legal tool we have to make sure that LGBTQ+ people can live free from discrimination — and with the dignity and respect they deserve. I look forward to working with One Colorado to promote fairness and equality, and serving as an ally in this fight.”- Elizabeth Warren"I learned early from my father that love is love. It was and is simple. In 2020, we know that visibility matters everywhere; pride matters everywhere. We have to come together to finish this work, because equality is the civil rights issue of our time. I promise, that no matter what I will stand beside you and be your most reliable partner as you continue to push back against flagrant abuses of power, ensure that everyone is treated with dignity, and fight for full equality."

‍- Joe Biden

‍“One Colorado has shown tremendous leadership in its efforts to break down the barriers that prevent too many LGBTQ+ Coloradans from achieving their full potential. From advancing anti-LGBTQ bullying and harassment policy to launching a youth GSA Network, you have championed crucial policies that will leave a lasting impact for decades to come. I’m committed to making progress alongside Coloradans up and down the ballot. Under my administration, we will usher in a new era for LGBTQ+ Americans by ensuring full equality under the law. Together, we can finally build a more inclusive and equitable America.”

‍- Pete Buttigieg

‍"Being identified as a 2020 One Colorado Pro-Equality Champion is a great honor for me as I am inspired by people who express and reach for open inclusivity and acceptance every day. This community is a model to us all on how we can aspire to be our authentic selves."

‍- Diana Bray

‍"Thank you One Colorado for your recognition as a pro-equality champion. LGBTQ Americans should be able to live their lives to their fullest without experiencing discrimination in their workplaces, from their government, or in their community. I'll continue working in Congress to advance equality and ensure LGBTQ Americans are treated equally under the law."- Ed Perlmutter "Thank you to One Colorado for naming me a pro-equality champion. I've been honored to work alongside you and am proud of what we've accomplished here in Colorado. We've made tremendous strides for equality, from civil unions and marriage equality to expanding protections for the LGBTQ community in family and medical leave and standing up against religious discrimination. Unfortunately, in a broken Washington DC, we're seeing constant threats to strip protections for LGBTQ people across our country. When these fundamental rights are under attack, all Americans are threatened. I will always stand up for equality and the LGBTQ community, and with your help I hope to be able to do that as Colorado's next Senator."

‍- John Hickenlooper

‍"CD6 is home to an exceptionally diverse community, including many who identify as LGBTQ+. I'm honored to be named a pro-equality champion by One Colorado, our state’s largest LGBTQ+ advocacy organization. Together we worked to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell, pass the Equality Act and fight back against this administration’s cruel and unnecessary ban on trans people serving in the military. When I served in Iraq and Afghanistan it didn't matter who you loved or how you identified, what mattered was that you had my back and I had yours."

‍- Jason Crow

‍“I’m proud to be a pro-equality champion. True freedom means our LGBTQ+ families, friends, and neighbors live with dignity and benefit from the same services and rights as cis-het folks. I will continue to fight to ensure no one experiences discrimination because of who they love or how they express their gender. After all, love is love!”

‍- Jillian Freeland

‍One Colorado sent a questionnaire to every filed candidate for President of the United States, Colorado U.S. Senate, and Colorado U.S. House  as of November 1st, 2019, regardless of political party affiliation, with the exception of Donald Trump. Only those who responded and received pro-equality scores will be identified as pro-equality candidates. For more information, please visit our Resources tab on our website at www.one-colorado.org. One Colorado has over 105,000 active supporters across the state. In 2018, they turned out 84% of those registered, active voters. For voters that they had direct contact with two or more times, they turned out 93% of those voters.  In 2018, they helped elect the country’s first openly gay governor, Gov. Jared Polis; the state’s first transgender lawmaker, Rep. Brianna Titone; and elected the second largest LGBTQ Legislative Caucus in the country. One Colorado will issue its statewide list of 2020 Pro-Equality Champions after the conclusion of the Colorado legislative session.
