One Colorado Celebrates Victory: No-Anti Trans Initiatives on November Ballot

One Colorado is proud to announce a landmark victory in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality in the state. Thanks to the leadership of One Colorado and its coalition partners, all the final proposed anti-trans ballot measures have failed to secure enough signatures to advance to the November ballot.

"This victory demonstrates  the strength and resilience of our community." said Nadine Bridges (she/her), Executive Director of One Colorado. "Our commitment to transgender Coloradans is at the forefront of our priorities and One Colorado is committed to the fight!  Coloradans have decisively rejected these harmful initiatives, reaffirming their support for pro-equality values. Today is a significant achievement and our dedication to protecting and empowering all LGBTQ+, especially, our transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive community members remains strong."

Beginning in January 2024, conservative activists submitted 30 ballot initiatives through the Title Board process aimed at limiting the rights of LGBTQ+ youth and families in Colorado. These initiatives consisted of a ban on gender affirming care for minors, preventing trans girls from playing in school sports, and various versions of “parental rights'' that include enshrining parental rights in the state constitution, forcing teachers to out LGBTQ+ youth, decreasing youth access to healthcare, and censoring teachers and school personnel.

One Colorado led the way, in coalition with local stakeholders, to diligently oppose these initiatives through the Title Board, keeping 27 of the 30 initiatives from advancing to signature collection. With our win today, we can now officially celebrate - there will be zero anti-trans initiatives on the November ballot.

"This next chapter at One Colorado is about building a powerful, united front of LGBTQ+ leaders," said Jax Gonzalez (they/them), Political Director of One Colorado. "We are committed to establishing  a robust pipeline for leadership, ensuring more transgender voices are at the table in political and resource decision-making. Together, with our collective strength and passion, we will protect and empower our community, securing a brighter future for all."

In light of this triumph, One Colorado invites supporters to join the "Path to Freedom: Charting our Course" webinar on Thursday, August 8th at 4:00 pm MDT. This event will define our opposition, share the story behind defeating these anti-trans measures, and outline how individuals can get involved. Additionally, attendees will be introduced to Freedom for All Coloradans, a newly formed coalition comprising advocacy groups, religious, and business leaders dedicated to protecting LGBTQ+ rights and leading efforts to remove the ban on same-sex marriage in Colorado’s constitution this November.
